Hi Friends! Rubina’s Cake Shoppe has rebranded to Sweet Sukoon, and this is my new blog. I’m in the process of moving content here, so stay tuned for exciting updates and new posts. Thanks for your patience!

Welcome to Sweet Sukoon!

We’re Rubina and Mariya, a mother-daughter duo with a shared love for food, art, travel, and crafts. “Sukoon” means tranquility in Urdu and Arabic, and through Sweet Sukoon, our hope is to create a community where food and art brings you joy, connection, and a sense of peace.

At Sweet Sukoon, we come together to celebrate creativity in all its forms—whether it’s through exploring delicious recipes, diving into vibrant cultures, or crafting something special. Rubina is the recipe mastermind, cake artist, and travel enthusiast, while Mariya brings her creative spirit and crafty ideas to life. Join us as we inspire you with our passions, share stories from our journeys, and invite you into our world where food, art, and fun intersect!

I’m Rubina—wife, mom of three wonderfully active kids, former owner of Rubina’s Cake Shoppe, and a tech leader during the day. In my downtime, I explore my love for food, art and travel, sharing recipes and experiences that reflect the harmony I find in each.

I’m a Pakistani-Canadian-American chef who weaves culture, creativity, and personal experience into every dish I create. Born in Montreal, raised under California’s sunny skies, and now calling beautiful Vancouver home, my culinary journey is as much about my roots as it is about my curiosity for the world. I love learning about other cultures through their food—whether it’s trying a new recipe, tasting a local dish, or discovering a unique cooking technique, each experience feels like a window into someone’s story. It’s this passion for connection through food that inspires everything I create.

By profession, I’m an engineer and digital transformation leader, which brings a unique blend of precision, curiosity, and innovation to my approach in the kitchen. My culinary passion took off with bespoke cakes—I’m a trained cake artist, mentored by celebrated designers like Chris Russom, Marjorie Chua, and Bronwen Webber. Over the years, my edible creations have been featured on television, in renowned publications, and even at Oscars events graced by Hollywood celebrities.

My recipes go beyond just instructions; they’re a celebration of culture, creativity, and the joy of learning through food. I also strive to accommodate a variety of dietary preferences, restrictions, and allergies in my cooking. From gluten-free treats to dairy-free delights and healthier alternatives, I aim to make food that everyone can enjoy while still embracing bold flavors and satisfying textures.

Whether perfecting a traditional makhani (butter) chicken, crafting an intricate dessert, or experimenting with allergy-friendly options, my cooking is where soul, science, and artistry come together.

Hey there! I’m Mariya and I’m 13 years old. I’ve been playing club soccer for as long as I can remember and always on the move! I absolutely love traveling and soaking in all the amazing art and culture from around the world. Crafting and baking are two of my biggest passions. I’m so excited to share my creative journey with all of you and hopefully inspire you to get crafty too!
